Tom Sawyer Character Explanations

Some characters of Tom Sawyer:

Tom Sawyer: He is a boy that doesn't follow rules very much, and he plays by his rules, which is whatever he wants to do at that time. He often doesn't think things through all the way. That's why he gets in trouble. Despite that, he is very clever. He does what he wants, when he wants. And gets away with it too! His brother, Sid, who I will explain later, rats him out to get him in trouble, which is how he gets in trouble all the time. His motivations are to play and do whatever he wants all the time, which is why he looks up to Huck, who does just that. He is suppressed by a school, church, and community that wants everything just right. His personality is carefree and adventurous. he is also very superstitious and has many things that he does to go about things(To find marbles: bury a box that has a marble in it, leave it a fortnight, then when you go back, all the marbles you ever lost will be there).

Huckleberry Finn: He is the boy that all the other boys look up to. Why? Because he does whatever he wants, when he wants. He doesn't go to church, school, and doesn't fit in to the community. He is what every boy wants to be. He just does whatever he wants. That's what his motivation is. He doesn't go to church, but believes in God. That was just the religion of that time. Huck has the typical boy attitude. He plays, has fun, does what he wants. He also has the same superstitions as Tom.

Aunt Polly: Aunt Polly is the old-timer that looks over her two dead sister's children. She has a sweet spot for them because she feels bad for them. She wants to raise them to be good kids, but Tom doesn't agree. Sid does, though. She wants to raise them to be good kids for their mother. She beats Tom, but feels bad about it. She fits into the community they have going, so she wants everyone else to also.

Sid: Sid is Tom's brother, about the same age, but very different. He is the good boy, that gets Tom in trouble and does everything right. Aunt Polly loves him. Tom hates him. He wants to be the model boy, and fit in with all the other model boys, and have a charmed life. Of course, to be a model boy, you have to fit in to the community's strict standards. He does just that. Which means he goes to church and believes in superstitions like everybody else.

Injun Joe: He is a man, a half breed, that doesn't fit in anywhere. He is hated by everyone, and gets his revenge no matter what. He wanders, because he has nowhere to go. He is easily upset and enraged, and is not above trickery to get what he wants. We don't know much about his beliefs yet, but I don't think he has many. I also don't think he has much conscience about things.
